Oh, honey, do I ever have headcanons for Good!Dad!Enji.
Sit down and buckle up because I have loads of them. Like so many, Wolfy, so many.
1- In a relationship where Enji actually respects and loves his wife, Rei, he understands that his ice maiden wife is much better at using, conveying and displaying emotions then he is. She’s calmer and easy going and really, that’s one of the things he loves about her so he leaves all the deeply emotional conversations up to her.
“Daddy’s going away for a while. There are people that need help and Daddy’s going to help them, but he’s not going to be here for a while.”
“Regardless if you know this classmate of yours who wants to invite you to go to the mall with them- by yourself- we don’t know him. You are our precious child and we won’t entrust just anyone with your safety.”
“A relationship is built on mutual love, trust and communication. While we understand that you are older, you are still not old enough to be dating. Unless we know who this person is and approve of him.”
*Enji’s eyes narrow* *flames rise higher* *temperature increases*
*Rei turns to smile at her husband* *temperature drops*
*Enji grumbles*
*room temperature goes back to normal*
(because if Enji talks to his kids about dating and relationships beyond friends and partners, there will be flaming fists and yelling involved- also property damage)
That doesn’t mean that he won’t be sitting right next to her, arms folded across his chest and nodding in complete agreement with what she’s saying (because communication- they have discussed this together). It doesn’t mean that Enji won’t lift his child up and say- very seriously- that he loves them very much, no more, no less then the others and if anyone makes them feel unloved or not good enough or unsafe they need to tell him right now.
They are their own unique person and if they want to be a hero- or not- Enji will always love them and support them. By loudly shouting their name and letting his flames grow bigger so he can be seen very clearly if need be.
2- Enji is socially awkward with people that he cares about. He can put on a face and be polite, commanding and reassuring in a blunt, confident and firm way, but it’s different with people he cares about.
So while any of his children that surprise him with hugs will get their affections returned and a very solemn assurance of his love or pride in them, but Enji will always be the first to say, ‘okay, that’s enough, don’t you have homework to do? Training? You want to go train?’.
3- Enji is absolutely the dad who will show up to every single game, competition, showing, or gathering where any of his children will be doing something. He will stand there, flames on, arms crossed firmly over his chest and anytime his kid(s) does something impressive, the entire audience will hear his shouting/applauding/cheering. That’s not even including the levels of his flames he puts off. Fellow parents have seen him more as Endeavor than as Todoroki Enji.
4- Enji has three phones, one for personal use, work, and the one that he will always pick up, even in a firefight. There was an instance where his oldest son- let’s call him Kodai- got into a fight at school and in a fit of rebellion he gave the principle the Emergency Number and Endeavor showed up with an unconscious and cuffed criminal draped over his shoulder.
This situation has been repeated with all of his children on several occasions because Endeavor is the No. 2 hero and he is frequently called away on business. He’s busy, especially with his Agency and the amount of territory he patrols.
Of course, this number has been used when one of his children needs to be picked up from somewhere they don’t want their mother to know about. Because Enji sets the rules and while he expects them to be followed, he usually leaves the enforcement up to his wife.
Unless the punishment is training. And really, the more training his children have the safer they will be.
5- While Enji delights in teaching those of his kids that control fire on any level, he is also amused when he plays- excuse me- trains with the ones with ice powers. Because all it takes is a handful of fire to melt their creations unless they come up with new and clever ways to fight him.
6- Enji has a hobby of wood burning and glass making. It was a tool he used for control and it evolved. Now he makes things in his spare time. His very rare spare time. So over the years, as his kids grow up and his wedding anniversary comes and goes each year, he’ll set time aside to make something for his family. Pendants, charms, beads, vases and the like.
7- Enji has changed diapers. Lots of times. Only his wife opted for the re-washable cloth diapers instead of the disposable ones. Regardless of this, there were several times Koyuki noticed that the amount of diapers she has changes. Sometimes she has a lot and sometimes there’s less then there should be.
8- When his kids get excited over certain heroes on the television, Endeavor will usually bring his kid(s) to work and by happenstance there’s information that he needs to pass on in person, or questions to be asked, or even patrols to be worked out or a mission to be shared that will require those heroes to come into the Endeavor Agency.
They have to come in person, of course. He’s the No. 2 hero, seriously, who is going to deny an invitation?
9- Enji manages to be both an absent dad and a helicopter parent. He’s away a lot and his go-to method of bonding is training. But if the Emergency Number rings, no matter where Endeavor is, he will either drop what he’s doing or go overboard to finish it right this instant to rush to where his kid(s) is/are.
…
Okay, let’s stop here. Basically Enji is a dork that has a helluva temper and usually expressed his emotions with flames and yelling. Lots of flames. But he loves his children very much.
EDIT: It’s now canon that Shouto’s mother’s name is Rei.
